A Codebook of Benefits and Challenges for Mushroom Microdosing

Taking a very low, non-hallucinogenic dose of psychedelic drugs like psilocybin-containing mushrooms is called mushroom microdosing. This practice has grown in popularity, despite having very little scientific research behind it. This article aims to fill this gap by developing a codebook of benefits and challenges (MDBC) based on the qualitative reports of a real-world sample of 278 microdosers.

Unlike a traditional drug like LSD or MDMA, which can be prescribed by a health care provider, magic mushrooms are an illicit substance that requires the user to find their own supply and administer it themselves. As a result, obtaining psilocybin-containing plants can be difficult and risky. The mushrooms also vary in their potency and can cause adverse effects like nausea, stomach problems and bad trips if too much is consumed.

Everything You Should Know About Mushroom Microdosing

While this might make some people hesitant to try mushroom microdosing, many users report that it improves their mood and boosts focus and energy. In fact, some studies have found that psilocybin can boost creativity and problem-solving skills.

However, more research is needed to determine whether microdosing with psilocybin-containing drugs can benefit health in the long term. In addition, it’s important to remember that psychedelics are illegal in most states and should only be taken under the supervision of a healthcare provider.
